Common questions
Spliinter FAQ
A quick reference for rooms, rules, scoring, and what happens to your game when you refresh the page.
How many people can play?
A room needs at least two players to start and supports up to twelve. The host chooses the room limit when creating it.
How long is a round?
The standard round lasts two minutes. The host chooses how many rounds to play, from one to ten. The server controls the timer for every player.
Why was my word rejected?
The word may be shorter than three letters, may use a letter too many times, may not be in the game's dictionary, or may be the base word itself. The server validates submissions using the same rules for everyone. See letter-count examples and the validation guide.
Why did my word get crossed out?
A word is crossed out when at least two players submitted it in the same round. Shared words score zero, while a word found only by you earns one point.
Can I join a game already in progress?
New players can join a waiting room before it starts. A room that is full or already playing is not open to new players, but someone who was disconnected can reconnect with the same browser session.
What happens if I refresh?
Spliinter keeps a temporary room token in session storage for the current browser tab. After a refresh or brief connection drop, the game attempts to resume your place. Closing the tab or clearing storage removes that local reconnect information.
Are usernames accounts?
No. Spliinter does not require an account. Your username is used only to identify you in the current room, and room state is held temporarily in server memory.
How do I report a problem?
Send support or accessibility feedback to contact@spliinter.in. For a game issue, include the room code, approximate time and what happened. For data questions, see the Privacy Policy.
Is Spliinter free?
There is no purchase or subscription required to play Spliinter.
Which dictionary does Spliinter use?
Spliinter loads the word-list npm package as a general-purpose English word list and adds three explicit words. A candidate must also follow the base word’s letter counts and the game’s other rules. If you think a word was wrongly accepted or rejected, email the word and the base word to contact@spliinter.in.
How are base words chosen?
In the default configuration, base words are 9 to 12 letters long, are not filtered inflections of shorter words, and have at least 120 valid smaller words according to the game’s dictionary and letter-count rules. A configurable common-word pool is also available. See how the game works for details.
Does Spliinter work on a phone?
Spliinter runs in a modern web browser on phones, tablets and desktop computers. There is nothing to download.
What do you store about me?
The current browser tab stores your username and reconnect details in session storage. The server temporarily keeps room, player, submission and score state in memory while a room exists. Optional Google Analytics measurement is disabled unless you accept optional cookies. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Can I play with more than twelve people?
A single room supports up to twelve players. You can create separate rooms for a larger group.
Can I use the same word in two different rounds?
Yes. Duplicate scoring is calculated within each round, so a word can be submitted again in a later round.
